Karkhin V. A., Khomich P. N., Ginzburg S. A., Michailov V. G. — Study of thermal processes around moving weld pool by boundary element method

A theoretical-experimental technique for determining the temperature field in a solid part of thin and thick plates to be welded has been developed basing on shape and size of the moving molten pool boundary. Formulation and solution of 2D and 3D heat conduction problems by using the boundary element method are presented. The technique allows the heat source efficiency and thermal efficiency of base metal melting to be found. The temperature field around the pool, the distributions of temperature gradient and cooling rate at the pool boundary are shown by the example of complete penetration laser welding of a 1 mm thick AMg3 aluminium alloy.
Good agreement between calculated and measured temperature cycles and peak temperature distributions is observed.

Peshkov V. V., Bulkov A. B. — Influence of the contact surfaces microstructure on the development of the joining process at diffusion welding of titanium

The influence of a layer with a fine-grained structure in the contact zone on the mechanical properties of diffusion-welded joints was establishedon the grounds of the experimental researches results performed on samples from the titanium alloy OT4. The appearance of this layer is due to recrystallization under welding conditions of metal subjected to deformation during preliminary machining. It is shown that the presence of a recrystallized layer in the contact zone, which has a great deformation capacity in comparison with the base metal, will improve the quality of the welded joint by creating favorable conditions for the development of collective recrystallization and the formation of common grains along the butt line.

Shchitsyn Yu. D., Belinin D. S., Neulybin S. D. — Creation of multilayer materials by the method of plasma deposition through the use of a direct action reverse polarity arc

The possibility of obtaining laminated billets from high-alloy steel 10Х18Н10Тby multilayer plasma deposition with reverse polarity current is shown. The investigationresults of the deposited material and the fusion zones between layers through the use of optical and electron microscopy are represented. Optical and electron microscopy showed absence of the internal defects in the laminated material. The derived material has a favorable fine-grained structure. The results of microhardness measurements showed the correspondence of hardness over the material surface with increasing hardness in depth. Defects on the fusion line are absent. The mechanical characteristics correspond to those characteristic for this group of materials. Corrosion studies have shown a material resistance increase in aggressive media obtained at reverse current polarity in relation to direct polarity. The conducted researches allow to recommend the technology of multilayer plasma deposition at operation of a plasma torch on a current of reverse polarity for creating defect-free billets from a homogeneous material.
