Matviyenko V. N., Leschinsky L. K., Mazur V. A. — Parent material heating and melting at compound strip-electrode flux surfacing

The results of the mathematical model of heat propagation when using submerged arc surfacing process with composite strip electrode have been presented. The model is designed upon solving the differential equation of heat conduction. Calculations and necessary graphs are made using the package MSC.Patran. The data in computational and experimental studies of the influence of geometry of the composite strip electrode on the shape and size of the weld pool, as well as non-uniformity of depth penetration is acquired. The calculated and experimental data are in agreement.

Razmyshlyayev A. D., Mironova M. V., Yarmonov S. V., Vydmysh P. A. — Flow rate in the bath at arc surfacing in the transverse magnetic field

With regard to wire arc surfacing physical simulation shows that induced by constant transversemagnetic field the velocity of the liquid metal flow, pointed to the tail of the bath, increases with the current and the transverse component of the magnetic field induction. It is established that flow distribution is determined by the nature of the components’ distribution of current density, extending out in the liquid metal of the weld pool. The obtained data can be used when determining the optimum frequency of the transverse magnetic field to control the size of the melting zone and the crystallization process of the metal of the weld pool during arc surfacing and welding.

Pirinen M., Martikainen Yu., Ivanov S. Yu., Karkhin V. A. — Microstructure comparative analysis of the metal in the heat-affected area at high-strength steel welding

Welding of the joints 8 mm thick from high-strength steels obtained by the method of quenching and tempering, and thermomechanical rolling with accelerated cooling is considered. It is shown that at the identical strength of steels (821—835 MPa) HAZ microstructure is significantly different at the same welding conditions. Hardness distribution in all zones of the joint is given. It is established that weakened area in HAZ of the steel, obtained by thermomechanical rolling with accelerated cooling, is wider than in the steel obtained by the method of quenching and tempering; the difference makes 5 mm at two-pass arc welding.

Tokmin A. M., Masansky O. A., Padar V. A. — Calculating induction surfacing parameters ensuring the required complex of physical-mechanical properties

The studied processes during induction surfacing, installed character interactions of components of a layered composite material (LCM) in conditions of liquid-phase interaction. The calculation of the exposure time, alternating electromagnetic field, providing the improvement of wear resistance of service conditions. Shows the results of experimental research on the influence of duration of induction heating on the formation of structure and properties of LCM.

Vlasov A. F., Makarenko N. A. — Electroslag solid-start remelting by bifilar circuited process using exothermal electroconductive fluxes

Experimental methods established that developed method using a solid start with exothermic fluxes of conducting an electric current in the solid state, significantly reduces the time needed to slag bath required amount. The proposed method using start exothermic flux has no negative effect on the quality of the bottom of the ingot. The technological process of accelerated guidance slag bath solid start on the scheme of bifilar process. The properties of cast steel electro slag 5XHM satisfy the requirements to the mechanical properties of forged metal kirn open smelting.

Korotkov V. A. — Restoration of mill end walls by surfacing

Wear restoration techniques of mill end walls are considered. It has been established and corroborated that residual compression stresses, considerable by value, are formed on the external surface of mill journal as a result of surfacing along their inside face. These stresses improve the journals’ resistibility to crack formation due to operating load.
